  1. Ants do not like chalk, so you could put chalk lines around windows and doors.  Also, believe it or not, grits work too.  They eat the dry grits and blow up from lack of moisture.  I used it on fire ants in South Carolina rather than poison.  Very strange, I know, but better than poisoning the water and ground.

  2. Use a mix of cinnamon and sugar and sprinkle it here and there. The ants will come and pick up the sugar, along with the cinnamon, and take it back to their queen. Ants can’t digest cinnamon and once the queen dies from not being able to digest the cinnamon the colony will die without her.

  3. Ants leave a phermone trail.  Watch them and see where they are coming from.  Then with some caulk seal any crack in that area.  This will prevent them from getting in.  Then wipe the area that you have seen the ants with bleach water.  This will get rid of the trail that they leave.   Ants are very smart.  They may find another place to come in.  I've seen it happen within inches of the original spot.

You can use bait,  however it takes awhile.  The ants first have to eat the bait and then take it back to their colony to kill the colony.  You may have to do this several times depending on the size of the colony.  Hope this helps.

  4. Just use the dry borax (sprinkle a couple inch line around the perimeter). Borax isn't toxic to ants if they eat it. It's just a dessicant and it dries out their bodies. But, if you're mixing it with sugar water, you're actually attracting more ants, not repelling them.

  5. I've had much success using Terro ant bait.
