  1. The most sensible solution is to take up swimming instruction immediately. If you are passionate and serious enough, you could pick up water survival skills pretty fast, within weeks. The hundred dollars you may pay for the instruction is worth the value of your life, so make this commitment your top priority. Best of luck!

  2. best to stay away from water if your afraid but if you fall in dont panic .

  3. Don't get in the water preferably

  4. First thing is to stay calm, panic doesn't resolve the situation, and you think clearer when you're calm.

In an upright position sway your arms along the surface of the water, moving your hands from in front of your shoulders and back until your arms are in line, making your body a 'T'. Keep kicking slowly. This is called treading water.

Of course, this doesn't help if an ocean current is taking you away from shore. The only solution to this is to take swimming lessons. In that you will also learn simple treading. You definitely don't want to test your treading/swimming abilities for the first time in an emergency situation.

  5. Try laying on your back, you normally float.
