How can you sure that there is a soul? Is there really a soul?

Decartes stated it best in his first mediation -  "I think, therefore I am".  If you think and exist, you must have a soul.  The fastest way to prove it to yourself is to love and be loved, then you will have no doubt.  I love you.

Yes there are souls, but not in the commonly-understood manner.  We ourselves are souls.  If you look at the account of creation in Gen.  it says that "man came to BE a living soul."  Not that he came to HAVE one.  In addition, the scriptures at Ezekiel 18:4 says that "the soul that is sinning, it itself will DIE," thereby negating the idea of a soul that lives on into eternity.  This has been understood in the past.  Think of the phrase that used to be used when a ship went down:  100 souls were lost.  50 souls were lost.  If they believed there was a soul that lived on 4-ever why would they say they were lost?
