  1. If you are completely new to ice, there are some steps you can do to help you learn.

    1. When you first get on the ice, take some time standing on your blades to get used to the posture.  Your knees should be bent, your hips over your shoulders, and your weight should be just behind the balls of your feet.  Hold your arms out in front of you like you have them resting on a table, at waist height.

    2. The biggest mistake beginners make is to try and walk on skates.  Skating unfortunately is nothing like walking!  So instead of trying to take steps forward, start by taking steps on the spot.  Then take small marching steps forward.  You should hardly be moving forward, so your feet should almost be stepping next to each other.

    3. As you get used to this, after each step, do a little glide forward on the foot that has done the step.  You may find this starts happening naturally anyway.  So you should be stepping your foot almost next to the other one, and then doing a little push forward on the ice. Then step the other foot in, close to the foot that has just pushed forward, and push that one forward.

Ta da!  You are skating baby!

You can start this holding on with one hand on the barrier.  I know people often use two, but you then have to twist your whole upper body to hold on with both arms, and it actually makes things more difficult.  Just take it slowly, and keep your feet under you.  This is where feeling where your weight is (like I said, just behind the balls of your feet) can help immensely.

And most of all, have lots and lots of fun!   Once you get the hang of doing it slowly, your confidence will grow, the pushes will get bigger and bigger, and you will get faster.

  2. try using Roller blades on the ground. They are much alike, and if u can get good at roller blading, then u should be able2 Ice Skate

  3. Get a pair of hockey skates (easier...i think) and go to free skates...u'll eventually get it .... hockey skating is pretty much the same as roller blading...side to side.

    Good Luck!

  4. it is actually much different that roller blades. the wheels are around 5 to 6 times wider than the blade on an ice skate.  there is really no teaching you have to just get out and do it, but be warry.  trying to skate on ice is like trying to walk on grease, it is slippery. having strong ankles helps this alot.
