I've been a coach off and on for a long time.  I think a good coach will help you with your issues - help to make you better - and then move on.  I think a good coach will listen to the issues you are having, and help you to increase your potential through dealing directly with those issues immediately, so that you can remain "caught up" on what you are already good at.  I also think a good coach will help you to set goals, and attain those goals during the stretch of a season.

Coaches are more or less teachers, mentors, and guides to get you where you need to be as an athlete.  Some coaches see that you may have a discipline problem, and they may push you in a certain direction to get the desired results - they may seem mean.  They are not your friend.  They are your instructor.  Coaches demand and should receive respect, and your dedication.  They are there so that you can become the athlete you want to be, and the team needs for you to be.
