I just bought like 4 boxes of English muffins from costco, and they all smell like fermented or something. Is this normal?

  1. English muffins have a sour-type smell when you first open them up. This is normal because the type of dough they use is similar to Sourdough.

There are only two ways that English muffins can go bad - they can grow white or blue mold on them, or they can become stale. Aside from that you're safe - and as far as that smell, it sounds normal, though the strength of the smell may vary from brand to brand.

  2. 4 boxes is a lot, hope you are freezing some.  They all smell fermented, that's natural.  Don't worry until they grow mold.

  3. if they smell bad

have mold on them or are mushy

Do they have experation dates on them? If so check it out.

  4. it will smell sour or have mld on it

  5. ha as far as i can remember they always smell funny i know they are bad when they are moldy otherwise i always figure they are fine

  6. look at the expiration date. if they're past the expiration date/have mold on them throw them out. if not return them to costco and tell like the manager they sold you gross food. they'll probably get you new ones.

  7. ALL English muffins smell like they are rotten... but they are OK if they don't look like a green hockey puck.

  8. They are rotten if they have green or white mold growing on them.

Do they smell like yeast?  If so, they are fine and you are a lucky shopper.  Put the ones you can't use in the next few days in the freezer.

    Happy Munching!
