  1. all snakes usually coil up into an S shape as to better strike you. Kingsnakes tend to "rattle" their tails to warn you. Of course, this behaviour is natural  if they are aware of your presence. Now if you touch them while they're not aware, they will quickly turn to see who's annoying them and you can bet there's a bite a coming! Just let your snake know you're there and wash yer hands b4 and after handling.


  2. watch out for the S shape when they curl up. some snakes will open their mouths a hiss a little to.

  3. they become sort of tense and they hold their head back and sort of rotate it a little as if sizing the scene up.

  4. I don't really no much about king snakes but from experience with pythons there are two different times they bite.  First if they're hungry there isn't much warning they just think you're food and strike.  Secondly there is the defensive bite which, in most cases, the snake will hiss and create an S shape with their neck allowing them to strike you.
