  1. more electrons then normal gives it a negative charge

    taking away electrons forces it to become positive


  2. Get a really really really small magnet and hold the positive side towards the atom. If it goes towards the magnet, it's negative, if it goes away, it's positive. If it doesn't do anything, then it isn't an ion.

  3. If its missing an electron its a positive ion, if it has an extra electron its a negative ion.
