How can you tell if it's a butterfly or a moth?

i recently found some sort of caterpillar yesterday, its green with small black spots and it is very fuzzy. what the heck is it??

  2. Most butterflies are active during daytime but moths are nocturnal.Moths are also less colorful than butterflies.

  3. I don't know what that is, I just know that you can see the difference between them when they're not flying. A moth would have the shape of a triangle. A butterfly has 2 big wings even when it's not flying.
