  1. I don't know but I would guess as long as the plant is still alive?

  2. One simple way to demonstrate this is to put a part of foliage under water - quite soon you will see gas bubbles forming on the surface of plant.

    Of course there is no simple way to prove it is oxygen, but at least the fact that some gas is released from leaves is evident.

  3. Measure with an oxygen electrode, or collect and analyze the gas.
