How can you tell if someone is mathematically gifted?

One of my students has ingenious ideas, and knows whats coming beforehand... what are some signs of giftedness in this area?

Yeah, I don't really know any signs for that age.  Sorry.  

If he/she truly has an intuition for problems, though, then I would consider that student gifted.  A lot of very high GPA people in my graduating class simply knew how to follow directions, but if someone can feel out problems, or even better create a solution that doesn't use the standard algorithmic approach (even though the solution may be messy), then I'd consider him/her gifted.

I just don't remember how often you're given an opportunity like that at that age.
