Question:

How can you tell if the baby house finch fledge away instead of eaten by predators?

A wild house finch built a nest above a Chritmas wreath in my front door, and 2 baby house finchs were still alive after hatch yesterday, but this early morning around 7 am I found damage nest on the ground and no trace of body or feather were found, do you guys know what could happen to them?

  1. If the birds just hatched yesterday...then they were eaten.  Baby birds cannot leave the nest at so young an age..they would have had to have stayed in the nest for about 2 weeks before they were fully feathered and ready to go.  You would not see any trace of a body or feathers..the predator that got them ate them whole.
