How can you tell if you're an alto or soprano?

I have my singing test in choir tomorrow to see if I'm an alto or soprano. We started sight reading our songs and I can sing the soprano, but I can't really sing low anymore like last year...did my voice change a little? Is that possible for girls?

  1. yes, people's voices don't fully mature until 30.

normally people will get lower voices not higher b/c as ur voice matures the vocal muscles thicken and the voice deepens. so voices don't really change and get higher.

what probablly happened is ur voice is not as warmed up and not used as much as it was last year so u probablly lost some range. lots of people find it harder to sing lower and have to work hard at it.

with more choir practices u will probably be able to sing lower again, hope that helps. :]

  2. Yes, they do. Some starts as early as 10, but the majority starts at puberty and later. Your vocal range CAN change. Most of them stay in their original range, more mature voice develops. Normally altos pitch reaches up to C, and sopranos high G and above in mature voice.
