Question:

How can you tell if your PC's are using the same IP address?

I have four computers in my house which obtain internet access via wireless router. Recently a bubble on my computer has been popping up saying there is an IP address conflict with another system on the network. And then usually on two or more computers I get no internet access. I am assuming it's because two computers are running on the same IP address. Can someone tell me how I can tell if they are and how to fix it?

  1. What type of router? If it's linksys or comparable product you should have no problem.

    On the computers in question.

    Click Start,  than Run

    Type CMD

The command prompt will come up.

         Here type ipconfig/release

         Than type ipconfig/renew

    That will refresh your IP

If this a wireless router that came with your connection it might not handle more than 2 connections. Depending on the setup. Make sure you have some type of security features enabled on the wireless router too, so your neighbors can't s***w with it.

  2. Login to each computer, then click on this link and follow the instructions: http://support.purenetworks.com/cgi-bin/...

The link takes you to Pure Networks' knowledge base page, where all you have to do is click on a link and you'll be shown your computer's IP address. If you are unsure how to change the IP address or resolve this issue, you can always try a free download of Network Magic, which will pretty much diagnose and solve this problem for you within minutes. You can find the download link here: http://www.networkmagic.com/

  3. Start menu --> right click my network places --> properties --> right click your network connection --> properties --> highlight Internet Protocol -->properties

The IP address is the first number listed-- each computer should have a different address.

  4. I had same problem with my system and router. Reason in my case was that ip addresses were not configured to be allocated automatically.Depending upon operating systems being used on your machines, you can follow the instructions on this webpage to configure windows to obtain ip address automatically,
