Question:

How can you tell if your car needs a new transmission or not?

I have a Nissan Sentra '96. Lately the car has been turning off by itself while driving. I thought it could be the alternator, but the lights stay on and everything, so I know it's not that. I replaced the fuel pump or injector or whatever that is, and for a week it seemed to help, the car ran fine. But the problem has returned. Once it gets around 2 RPMS, the car starts to lose power and eventually shuts off. Could this be the sign of needing a new transmission? If so, where's a good place to look for an affordable transmission?

  1. You can tell by its not upshifting or downshifting. you have to listen to the motor and watch your tachometer. If you feel it isn't upshifting or downshifting get it to a transmission shop safely. And they will look at it and tell you for sure. Hope this helps.

  2. Your car has an engine problem, not a transmission problem.

Take it to someone who can check it out.

  3. Most probably an electrical problem and or relays especially to the fuel pump.
