  1. Female sliders will nest in May and June generally. A female may have 1 to 3 clutches a season, with second clutches laid in July and August. Females will travel some a long distnace  to find a the best nesting site. Nests are dug in the soil with the female’s back feet, typically in the late afternoon or early evening. They will lay 4  to 23 white eggs depending on maturity of the female.  The eggs feel  leathery and the  shells are laid in a 3-10 inch wide by 2-4 inch deep hole. Then she covers the  hole with  soil to seal in the eggs for protection from predators and the elements. Skunks and raccoons birds of prey frequently rob the nests while ants, fly maggots and molds attack the eggs. The bigger females often lay more eggs in a clutch than smaller females. The little guys  emerge in 60 to 75 days using their ""carnucle"" (egg tooth) that soon disappears after the hatching. Do not remove it wioll fall off on its own.Hatchlings are born between the months of July and September. If hatching are born  in the late fall, the young may overwinter in the nest and emerge the following spring. They are about an inch  inch long after hatching.

  2. When you see baby turtles in their tank thats when you know they like each other!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Sounds like you've got a successful pair.  Otherwise they would just ignore each other except for sleeping together when it's cold out.

They do want to mate.  It's in their DNA.

  4. They could be trying to mate or they could be fighting for basking spots....make sure you have enough light and heat for both of them....

You say the size of an orange but that doesnt really help so i cant really say if they are mating.....they could be practicing, they might be young and not quite sure of how to do it yet.

If you do plan on having res babies you need to be prepared for when shes ready to lay...you dont want her to have to lay her eggs in the water...do some research before the eggs come if they come....so youll be ready!
