How can you tell if your wound is reopening too much after having stitches?

I had a pretty deep cut on my knee with 10 stitches. It came undone and I had to get them done a second time. After 10 days they were removed and it looked like it was healing but now the wound is separating again despite efforts to keep the knee straight. There's spot bleeding but it's still mostly scabbing. I'm just afraid it's pulling apart too much. (About a 1/4 inch) How can you tell? And is there really anything they can do at this point?
