How can you tell the age of a dog?

My dog was abandoned and i would like to know it's age.

I would not worry too much as long as you give it lots of love and healthy diet and he appears fit and healthy make the most of the time with your lovely pooch and what ever years he has left he or she be grateful for a loving home.

I have a rescue bulldog who was estimated at 18 months to 3 years.  I have had her for 2½ years and here teeth are still in the same condition as when we first had her.  Does that mean she is still only 2?  I dont think anyone has a clue unfortunately, although the best guess is to look in the mouth.  My Alaskan Malamute who is 3 has teeth in worse shape than the Bulldog.  Has anyone got a better way?

Look at the teeth. The front adult teeth come in by three months of age. The adult canine teeth come in by six months of age. After that you can tell by the amount of wear or tartar on the teeth. If you aren't sure you can ask the vet the next time you have the dog in.

Well, you vet will be able to give you the best answer, but other things such as whether it's gone grey, how lively it is, the state of it's teeth will all come into context.

We have 4 rescue dogs.  The vet was able to give us an estimate of their ages, but that's it.  He looked at the wear on their teeth and cloudiness in their eyes.

Approximate age can be assessed by wear on the teeth, but other factors affect that as well, such as health and nutrition.  Your vet will be able to give you the best estimate.
