  1. There is no simple way to determine the difference between a spiritual prompting from a good or negative force. You won't hear a difference in tone or anything like that. There is an edge however, unlike malignant force, which make suggestions from outside a person's soul, the Holy Spirit is considered to be dwelling within a person soul. This means that a prompting from a malignant force is more likely to feel unnatural than one from the Holy Spirit.

Promptings from the Holy Spirit often come as a flash of conscience, usually with a sense of urgency or 'rightness'. A person who suddenly cannot ignore a conflict of conscience and acts rightly is often said to have been guided by the Holy Spirit.

Sidenote: An exception to this rule is the rare demonic 'familiars'. While actual familiars and contact with them is enormously rare, they will, over time, work to change a person's perception of right and wrong until thier promptings seem almost as natural as a prompting by the Holy Spirit.

  2. You can't. That's the problem with religions. It tends to be something you make up in your own mind in response to what others are saying and telling you. Very few people hold to a religious belief that is not influenced by the outside world. This is why you have people splitting off from cults and denominations, thinking that God is telling them one thing while others think it's something else. How can you tell? You can't.

  3. you ask it

  4. A good spirit would never ask you to do something mean or bad.

"Ye shall know them by their works"  if you believe the bible.
