  1. your handicap is how many strokes you average over par....if you average an 85 on a par 72 course...your handicap would be around 13

  2. Take how much you usually shoot over par on 18 holes and that's your handicap. So if par is 72 and you usually shoot 82  on 18 holes then your handicap is 10.

  3. You shouldn't try calculating your handicap after just one round.  A handicap is calculated after multiple rounds and the bare minimum, 5 rounds.

This is done because on one specific day, you could play out of your mind and actually shoot par for the day meaning you don't have a handicap, you're considered a scratch golfer and ready to join the PGA tour.  Then the next weekend, you can't hit the broadside of a barn with a cannon and shoot 120 on a par 72....which results in a 48 handicap.

Play about 5 to 10 rounds, keep your scorecards and then go to an online handicap calculator like this one:

    http://www.csgnetwork.com/golfhcapcalc.h...

Input your scores and the this calculator will give you your handicap.

Personally, I use GolfLink.com to tally my scores and calculate my handicap as they have 100's if not 1000's of courses on file where you can input your score on every hole depending on which course you played at.

I usually play at an executive course (front 9 are all par 3's) as I'm working on my iron and short game play which needs the most work.  This executive course is only a par 58 and not the standard par 72.

I mention this because the first time I played the game (was on this same par 58) and when people would ask me what I scored, I told them a 80....which blew their minds....and me, being the noob that I was...didn't know why.

There is a HUGE difference from being 8 over par and 22 over par!  LOL!

    Hope this helps.

  4. If you end your sentences with a preposition your handicap is grammar.

  5. Your handicap is calculated through a complex formula that uses a weighted average between your scores and what a scratch golfer and a bogey golfer would normally score on any particular course and using one set of tee boxes.

There are online calculators that can tell you what your handicap is by entering as few as 5 scores or as many as 20. If you only put in 5 scores it will use the lowest round of those 5 scores. It will use your best 10 scores of the last 20 rounds you enter.

Here is a site that will explain the handicap system, give you the calculation, a lookup for your favorite courses to get the slope and rating (used in the calculation) and a handicap calculator to find your true handicap and not just an estimate.

  6. There are numerous free websites that will help you calculate your handicap.

You will need to have the course rating (usually between 66 and 75 with a decimal point; based on what a scratch golfer should probably shoot), slope (a 3-digit number which factors in the difficulty of the course, hazards, etc.), and your score.

Your USGA handicap is based on your best 10 rounds from your last 20 played.

Your handicap isn't "around" anything.  It's a number.

Most of the free websites (look for "handicap tracker") will give you an index (your handicap) with only a few rounds entered.

  7. are you sure you want to know????
