How can you tell when raw oatmeal is rancid?

I purchased really raw oatmeal and soaked it for about 1 day and half. It had a really bad smell and a bitter taste. How can you stop raw oatmeal from going rancid and how can you tell if is rancid or not?

You probably over soaked it and it rotted! Sorry!!

The max you need to soad raw oatmeal is overnight - and its perfect the next morning. Try it and you won't be dissapointed.
