  1. I'd know a filet mignon anywhere..

Although once when out with my folks & a friend, the friend ordered an ostrich filet mignon & it looked & tasted just like beef but a bit leaner (if that's even possible!)

  2. Can you not identify beef when it is set before you?

  3. You do not know for certain. Anything can happen in a kitchen. Restaurants are looking for the bottom line, not the consumer. You never really know unless you follow it from fridge to pan to plate. With the blends of spices used now a days, you could not tell  some of the time. Yet another reason to be a vegetarian. Peace, Ame

  4. I can't imagine a male named Butch couldn't tell beef steak from emu or whatever the surprise was, but bison or buffalo would be close enough!  If it came from something else, it probably cost them more.

If you are ordering from a non-chain restaurant, simply ask the server. They are obligated to tell you even if the menu doesn't say, USDA grade, select...etc. Chains always describe everything without surprises, everything goes through legal.

  5. If the questioner doesn't know the flavor of beef by now ,he or she,is in big do do. Beef has  its own distinctive flavor. It cannot be confused with veal, mutton, alligator, bison, rattlesnake, lamb or venison.
