What is the distinguishing characteristic that shows which is a Female Crow or Raven from a Male. Is there some kind of mark near the beak, or something else?

  1. Both sexes are similar, and it is difficult to tell them apart. The sexes are similar in all corvid species. This family (corvidae) includes ravens, crows, jays, magpies and a few other birds as well.

The only difference between male  and female  Corvids are that the females lay eggs. That is it.

  2. There is no way to tell by physical appearance alone, as to whether a crow is male or female. DNA testing of blood will indicate s*x. Close study of crows in their daily life, especially during nesting season may provide a clue as to s*x, however, this is not something that many people will be able to observe. While both raven sexes are alike in plumage, but male slightly larger on average.

  3. There really is no way to tell them apart besides behavioral observations or blood tests.

  4. these birds lack any overt sexually dimorphic mark (visual indicators of s*x).  The males are larger than the females, otherwise visually it is very hard to tell them apart.
