Ovulation usually takes place right in the middle of your cycle. If you are due for your period in a couple days, most likely you are past ovulation. But that's really just a guideline. I wouldn't use that info as a birth control method or anything.

I can tell when I am ovulating because I feel crampy, just for about an hour or two, right in the middle of my cycle.  It's generally one week after my period ends.  I also have more discharge then -- just clear, but still more than usual.

Take your temperature every morning when you wake up, before getting out of bed or using the bathroom. Your temperature will drop slightly right before you ovulate, and then will rise. It will continue to rise on the following two days, and will register about 0.4 to 0.6 degrees higher than your normal temperature.

generally women ovulate two weeks after the end of their period. you can tell because you vaginal discharge because thicker, clearer, and stringier. also, if you chart your body temp it will increase when you're ovulating. ovulation for most women lasts about a week. however, all women are different and there is no 100% sure way to tell when you're ovulating. it can happen even during your period. also keep in mind that sperm can live inside you for several days. so really, just use protection. I know everyone says that but I recently had a pregnancy scare and it is just SO not worth worrying about unless you're actually trying to conceive!

You need to be charting your cycles.Normally most women ovulate 14 days after starting.For example I started on the 5th of July I got off the 12th and ovulated on the 19th.You can go to mycycles.com and record your periods.You can chart your temperature and all that stuff but if you're like me im too lazy to do all that lol.

Go to the dollar store and get an ovulation test.  They work, trust me.  When your ovulating is the best time to get pregnant.

The way I know that I'm ovulating is when it's 'slippery' when I wipe. Also, there's a slimmy (sp?) discharge that looks like 'egg white'.

assuming you think it's the best time to have s*x because you DO want to get pregnant, then it's the perfect time. you'll feel sharper pains than cramps in your ovaries and you'll have a bigger ammount of discharge. actually, you can tell the day you're ovulating by counting about 14 days after you're period (assuming you have a cycle every 28 days)

a company has now came out with a thing to pee on that says if you're ovulating or not. i don't know how well it works, but that's an option.  on average, women ovulate after 2 weeks of having their period. i notice a difference in my personality when i am ovulating, but that's just me.

there should be a sticky clear liquid comming from your v****a.  you may have crazy cravings like wanting fudge brownies, pickles, candy bars etc. You will also maybe have a slight twinge under your stomach by or on your ovaries. these are sure signs. you can also get an ovulation tester at your local pharmacy.
