  1. Step1 Observe the color of the face on your mature cockatiel. Males tend to have a bright yellow face with a brightly-colored orange patch on the cheek; females will have a grey or pale yellow face with a duller patch of orange on the cheek.

Step2 Look on the underside of the bird's feathers. Males will have a sold color underneath their wings and tail feathers, while females will have spots underneath.

Step3 Pay attention to hear, after nine months, if your cockatiel is singing or not. A male will start singing at nine months and a female will not.

Step4 Examine your nine-month old cockatiel to see if the bird is molting. A female cockatiel will begin to molt into her adult feathers at around nine months and a male bird will not.

  2. Only the males will whistle, the males usually have no grey on their faces and males will have solid colored tail feathers.Only the dirty face pied mutations will find males with grey on their faces.

The female will only tweet and all females have grey on their faces along with stripes on their tail feathers.

If you find a solid grey cockatiel it is more than likely to be a white face female. No white face cockatiel will have orange cheek patches. All white face cockatiels no matter what they look like, if there is no orange patch on the cheek, then it is definently a white face. Only the grey bred mutations will have orange cheek patches weather they are lutino or not.

  3. roll them over where their privates are put your finger if you feel the bones there apart it's a girl if there together it's aboy.plus as they get older girls get more spots, boys lose their spots.and boys have brighter colors.boy whistle and girls squawk.

  4. boy cocatiels usually have brighter colors than the females

  5. If you take your cockatiel, ( on your finger) hold it up, and look on the underside of there tail.  If the tail has barrings ( stripes going horizontaly)  on the tail, that cockatiel is a Female.  If there are no barrings, then the cockatiel is a Male.   This is probly the easiest way to tell a birds gender.

    Hope i helped!
