I have a leased 2007 Honda Odyssey that has two more years on lease and I am already over the mileage. Is there anyway to temporarily stop the odometer so i don't pay outrageous over mileage fees? I put 36,000 miles in one year which was my total allowed mileage for a 3 year lease. Can I just stop it temporarily??

  1. That is very illegal, and you will get caught.  The odometer system is sealed for just that reason.

You knew the terms when you leased it, and you drove too many miles.  So, you have two options:  Pay the mileage fees when you turn the vehicle in, or buy the vehicle outright.  If you buy it, the mileage does not matter, and you won't pay extra.

  2. It is a federal offense. You can't trick it. They have already thought of how you would do it. You should have realized how much you drive before signing a lease. For that many miles, always buy a car.

  3. stop driving it.

  4. park it or wreck it

  5. pull the fuse but it might be link to other safely things like abs.

  6. You can't without getting caught. The computer will store the malfunction code and the lease company will see that when the car is returned so your busted.

Other side effects: The car won't shift due to no idea of what speed your moving at. It may not idle when coming to a stop due to the same reason. Fuel milage will be cut in half due to being in "Limp home" mode ( the check engine light )
