Question:

How can you thin out Marigolds that are too thick and too tall in a flower garden?

Can you dig them up and replant them? First Time Gardener.

  1. The roots on larger marigolds are too big to succesfully transplant them at that stage..You can take and literaly cut off the branches that you want to thin out..and thin out heavily if you want..it will not effect or kill the rest of the plant..uprooting will kill them...I grwo marigolds by my herbs and in my raised bed veggie garden for a natural insect reppellant..I have to thin mine out all the time..they get 3 or 4 feet tall easily..gheres some pictures..I have not lost a single plant due to thining out..

    Notice the marigolds here they have been trimmed back several times..
