  1. If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….

Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder. Make sure your camera is in playback mode.

The fine print in your manual makes reference to firewire (ieee 1394) connection.

  2. Option 1.

Connect the camcorder to PC via firewire cable(IEEE1394), if you cannot see that socket on PC then you will need to get a firewire card for PC,turn on the camcorder to play/edit, the pc should be asking you to capture using which program. select the one you prefer. follow the instructions on the program such as where to store the file and type of video file(AVI-large file size about 13gb/hour, MPEG-depends on the bit rate file size would change) etc. Then use programs like windows movie maker, adobe premiere, sonic mydvd etc to get rid of any unwanted scenes, adding songs, transition effects between scenes and titles etc. Then use any DVD authoring programs to get that final video onto DVD.

    Option 2.

Buy a good quality DVD recorder (Philips,Sony etc) then connect the camcorder to the recorder, follow the instructions on the manual.

    Happy DVD making :)

  3. Now  a days all Camcorders come with S/W to convert also. The cables are given with Camcorder. This can be played on a PC to convert to DVD or to a DVD recorder through a TV.

  4. You will need a very high level magic user to turn a cassette into a disc. As far as I know, it has never even been attempted. You could take the info off the cassette, put it on a computer, and then record it onto a disc, but you'll never be able to turn a cassette into a disc.

  5. You'll need to capture the video via firewire  - if your PC hasn't already got one you'll need to install a firewire card. They're cheap, easy to install and readily available. You'll also need a firewire cable.

Once everything's connected you can capture and edit the video with Windows Movie Maker (it should already be on your PC), save it as DV-AVI (it's under Save on My Computer, Best quality show more choices, Other settings) and then write it to DVD using DVD Flick.
