  1. Vygotsky's theory was concerned mostly with instructed learning through direct teaching or through structured experiences that supported a child's learning.  One way to look at it is through assisted learning, where, in a preschool class, scaffolded learning takes place.  This could be through giving information, prompts, reminders, encouragement at times, and then allowing students to do more and more on his/her own.  For example, having the child do an activity in a more teacher directed environment and then backing off with time for the child to complete the activity independently.

Then...let's look at the zone of proximal development.  The best way I could say to demonstrate this in preschool is reasoning things out with the children...saying, "Well, I have yellow paint and I have blue paint, but I really want green paint.  Hmmm...I wonder what I could do..."  This idea could also be translated into assessment.  Giving the child a task that is a little out of their range and giving hints and prompts to see how they can make use of the information.
