  1. I agree with the above.  They used to have "Civics" classes in school.  In grammar school we learned aobut the presidents, the Constitution, the Bill or Rights, our fight for iIndependence etc.  Now we don't teach those things anymore.

I think there is a general malaize concerning government.  I think it would help if government stood up and worked fo the peolple - but that's a catch 22.  The goveernment won't work for the people unless the people insist they work for them and not for corporate greed.

This is one reason I like Obama.  He has inspired may young people to get involved for the first time.  That's exciting - because it will be the young involved poeple who will make the changes. That's who did it in the 60's.    I think if he's elected he will be an inspiration for young people to take more responsibility and create the direction of our future.  But he can't do it alone.  If the young want to play weith computers and hypnotise themselves with Brittny dribble then nothing will change.

  2. Make it feel like it matters... I don't know how often I hear that "politics don't have anything to do with me."  It's hard for young people to understand the enormous world of politics and how it affects them.  It would be helpful to start teaching politics at an earlier age.  It would also be helpful to have politics be more inclusive (and conducive).

  3. Give me a wider range of candidates or a proportional representation election system!

  4. Make it more obvious how important politics are and help show how politics affects everyone.

I have been interested in politics, to some extent, since the age of seven, and became actually involved around twelve.  I know that political awareness is not common among the younger generation.

  5. Youth empowerment will encourage them to participate in politics.

  6. Wait until they are in danger of being drafted and forced to participate in the next war. Just like in the '60's, young people will start paying attention then.

Most people don't give a flip about politics until something affects them directly. This is true all over the world, not just in the U.S.
