Well it depends on the auction day and the stock (demand & supply).

In general, yes you can make a good profit and that is one of the reason they are popular.

You can get cars pretty cheap at a dealers auction. In general, the dealer's auctions are cheaper than car auctions that are open to the public. That's in addition to having newer and better cars. Some of the cars at public auctions are pretty crappy. Trust me... I've been to a few.

And heck yeah you can make a lot of money opening a used car lot. I would say the hardest part would be getting together all that money for your inventory and other business expenses.
