  1. USA is not cheap! UK is so expensive!!!

  2. think dude how much higher is the great british pound, im going to scotland soon and im dreading conversion prices, but it really depends where you go. in NY its going to be more pricy due to the fact that it is a big city and wnats the most money for what it has, its the american way, but try and not get a hotel in the heart of any big city, try the outskirts for a cheaper placed or h**l use an american travel agency travelocity is good or orbitz but liie i said depends where you go

  3. put it this way everything will be half price of what you are used to paying in Britain

  4. It depends on what cities you are visiting and what you expect to do while in the USA -- for instance, hotels in NYC are very expensive, but hotels of the same status are cheaper in places like Austin or Louisville. Cabs and renting a car is much more expensive than taking mass transit, but most US cities don't have good mass transit options (exceptions are Washington, DC and NYC). The USA has very, very few youth hostels -- that's a rare thing in the USA. And bed and breakfasts in the USA tend to be on the elegant side, rather than the bargain side (as they are in Europe).

Not only is it about two dollars to the pound, but most things in the USA are cheaper than in Europe, even without the exchange rate, such as food and computers. So, estimate the costs of a trip to somewhere in Britain, half the rate of all costs, and that's about what you are going to spend in the USA -- or less.

If you want to do things on a budget, buy a copy of Lonely Planet for whatever region you are going to be visiting, or even a copy of the Rough Guide -- they have lots of budget options for everything (rooms, food, transport, etc.)

  5. If you are wondering about the plane flight, it depends on time of year and origination and destination points.   I've seen flights advertised going to London for around $250 or less R/T.

  6. That depends on the election. If McCain is president, feel safe.
