How clean is 'clean coal' really compared to other technologies

Lets just say my granddad, my dad and most of all my family work in the mines and there is nothing clean about coal. Granddad lost his life to something called blacklung it is something you get when you go down in the mines and breath the air . My dad is loosing his fight against it as well I would hope we could find ways to make working in a mines cleaner and safer.

The comment about nuclear being clean tends to ignore the waste....

Also, getting the fuel is far from clean.  As the fuel gets harder to mine, we have to use more energy to get it.

Far dirtier than either nuclear, solar, or wind power.  The latter three are all extremely clean once running (ignoring construction costs).
