How close can my neighbors build a fench near my window?

My nieghbors build a fench about 2-3 inches from my window. Its on their property but, blocking my back window which looks out into their yard. Are they aloud to do this and if so how close to my window can they. I would like to get it removed for fire hazard saftey but, only if it's possible.

Your window is only 2-3 inches from their property line? Surely you men that your window is only a few feet away from their property line.

I do not know, but my guess is that if it is on their property, it is legal.  You can talk to them about it if there is no law to get it moved.

Generally if it is on thier land..they can build it..I have never heard of putting a fence 4 feet from your property line ANYWHERE...fences are generally made to mark your property not build a fence and give 4 feet of your property to the neighbors..there may be a city code there as far as the heigth of the fence..but not one preventing them fencing thier property off

Where I live in St.Louis nothing can be built with in 4 feet of property line or house. Good luck:)

Check your survey or go talk to the people at your village hall. When you bought your house you bought the land it's sitting on. If the fence is over the lot line it's a violation and you could have them remove it. Most villages have building codes which would apply to lot lines.

Check with the local government and the building department on if it is legal.

    Check with your codes in the building codes office, if they are blocking your view then it could be detrimental and they may have to move it.
