How close does a CHP need to be to detect your speed with a radar gun?

Radar is somewhat limited to within a mile or so, but if they are using laser, i got hit at almost 2 miles, and it held up in court.

As long as you are in their line of sight..they can get you probably as far as a half a mile away...I'm not sure of maximum distance..but it's at least a half a mile.

I was with a friend once that got stopped by radar and he told her she was 165 feet from him when he clocked her.  I know that isn't very far in a car, but I heard they pick up farther than that.   The one that sits on telegraph in my city he gets them every few minutes.

Radar range varies widely with radar, target (size/shape), and weather conditions.

Maximum detection range can be as little as 100 feet, or greater than 1 mile.
