How close is Ukraine to joining the EU?

Ukraine wants to join as soon as possible, but the EU Commission has already stated that they have no current plans to invite Ukraine to join, as Ukraine has too many issues to resolve.

Namely, they will not be considered until they resolve:

1. A stable government

2. A stable economy

3. Womens rights

4. Environmental stewardship

Last comment I saw from the EU Commission was that they would likely not even look at including Ukraine in the near future. They need to resolve the issue of the percieved threat to Russia if Ukraine joins, as well.

I don't know but I wish they would so that my friend can come over to visit me in the UK.
