How close is too close for dog p**p to be near my wellhead?

My wellhead is in the front yard. My dog poops in the backyard. I clean some but not all of it, and my well is about 210 feet below ground-level. Will I ever notice a poopy taste? Will the bacteria ever make it to my water source?

If you didn't clean it up you will have a p**p pile, now if he was wizzing there too you might have reason for concern, the real concern is how far is it from your well pipe stub that comes out of the ground because that is where bacteria will get into your system not the ground.  

Typically you want to keep any possible pollutants including fertilizer at least 100 feet away from the well head, its your drinking water so you might want to go the extra step and keep things away from it.

well look at it this way, that dog p**p water has to wash down through 210 feet of soil before it gets there.

  Also, anything else you have been using on your lawn such as grub control or fertilizer can get down there too UNLESS, there is an aquaclude, a layer of rock above the area in which your well draws water from, in which everything would be 100% fine with the water.

I would be a little more worried about chemicals washing down there, but there is most likely an aquaclude down there, it all depends on the geology of your area.

There is virtually no chance that waste can go through the ground down to your water source. The farthest it will reach will be 5, maybe 10 feet. As long as you have plants in the way, the majority of it will be picked up. Plus it is generally solid so it won't easily slip past plants and soil to your water. Even if it was possible for p**p to go down there, the amount of p**p in the water wouldn't be noticed or harmful. Pesticides and other chemicals are way more likely to reach your water source and cause you harm.
