  1. who cares?

  2. Depends on where you are. Interior Alaska is the coldest in winter and may experience a few days of temperatures of 50 to 55 below zero, but 20 to 30 below is more normal. The coldest ever recorded was around 90 below zero F. The coasts are much milder. Also, the interior is fairly warm in summer with average highs in June/July of around 70 to 75 degrees F.

  3. Keep in mind that Alaska is really big.  At over twice the size of Texas, it is larger than most countries in the world.  Therefore, it is hard to make generalizations about the weather.  Alaska has rainforests, arctic deserts (meaning extremely low precipitation) and everything in between.  Talking extremes, the official low recorded was at Prospect Creek Camp in the Arctic (far north) at -80 degrees F.  Colder temperatures have been recorded, but not "officially."  This makes Alaska home to the coldest recorded temp in North America.  In terms of highs, 100 degrees F was recorded at Fort Yukon, which is, ironically, near the Arctic Circle.  (Interior Alaska, meaning away from the coasts, gets very cold in the winter and relatively hot in the summer).  I have lived in Fairbanks (in the interior), where the summer is hot (at least to me) and the winter routinely reaches 50 below or colder.  I experienced  -68 degrees when I was a kid.  That is much, much colder than the inside of your freezer.  I also lived in Homer, which has cooler summers and warmer winters--but the ice, snow, and wind can make it rough.  Bottom line is, Alaska's winter is pretty cold in all parts of the state, and the summer is generally pleasant temperatures.

And by the way, Alaska IS the coldest state, not Minnesota.  Especially If you count only INTERIOR Alaska, it is WAY colder than anywhere in Minnesota.

  4. It is not actually that cold unless you go way up toward the pole (totally unpopulated areas). I was at Ft. Richardson Alaska and it was snowing and we wore shorts. I cannot give you actual temps, don't  remember. But I did see on my local weather a trivia question the coldest state out of all 50. Everyone picked Alaska and lost !! The coldest state in the country is Minnesota.

  5. Check out the link below.

  6. When I lived in Fairbanks, we had temperatures as low as -65 fahrenheit.   That is not chill factor temp either.   It was basically calm.
