Question:

How cold is too cold to work?

We work in a reception with access from the street it barely tops 19degrees and its so cold i can barely feel my fingers our uniform is a white shirt and blazer!! we wear black jumpers though this is not technacly allowed and they are planning to stop us doing this.. is there anything that we can do? Is there anyone we can contact as there isn't really a way to turn the temprature up. shouldnt we be provided with a warmer uniform??

  1. With my job im an electrician, and work on street lighting. Its the best job in the world in the summer. But during the winter, january-february mainly, during the mornings we have to work outside while not really doing much physical body movement so we are producing no extra body warmth.

    Hands/fingers are always moving but they are so numb even with wooly thin gloves on, skin often turning to a pale-blue colour in temperatures of 0-8'C. It really hurts at times.

    Just think people that work north of Canada during the winter, the temperatures there during dusk are minus 30 to 50'C lol, thats death! but somehow some people cope in it.


  2. you should be able to wear something.i mean how good of a job are you going to do if your freezing all the time.you would think the company would have some smarts when it comes to that.but wear long johns uder your suit.it will help.and talk to your boss about it.if he/she is stuborn,have a little pow wow with the other employers to walk out until things change.
