How com peopl deny what I say about toddlers...?

They say that breastfeeding is natural and I agree, but when I say weening is natural too they deny it. I simply say that when a baby grows teeth it delivers pain to the nipples thus discouraging breastfeeding and sort of making the baby adjust to solids.

  1. Sort of makes sense to me.  Of course weening is a natural process. At some point either the child or mother will decide it's time to stop nursing.  And if you've ever been beaten on the nipple by a nursing child, I'm sure you agree that policy.

I'm not sure why people would disagree with that fact.

  2. ONLY you and your baby know when it's time to stop.  Any amount of breastfeeding is beneficial.  Teeth hurt!

I guess people disagree because they need to be the perfect mother and read every book out there until they believe anyone else with a different view is wrong.  Or they just don't want to let go.

That video was TOTALLY disturbing.  eeww.

  3. The child should only be detached from the boob when he enters high school.

  4. Because what you're talking about is a shady area for some people.  My daughter didn't have ANY teeth until 11 months and she only got the middle two on the top and the bottom.  No more teeth showed up until she was 13 months and filled in by 21 months.  I BF until she was 16 months.  I don't think I'd BF past 18 months.  Most babies need the fat content in breast milk until they are 12 months and then more after and women's milk does have a higher concentration of fat content after one year.  My daughter was started on solid foods at 4 months and was eating small pieces of solid food at 7 months and eating chopped meals by 12 months and getting cows milk by 9 months.  I BF until 16 months because I wanted to and I liked the bond we had.  I don't think I'd disagree with your statement, just would have to consider that statement child by child.  Some babies get teeth way to early and some get them later.  A real fact is said that the longer the teeth take to show up, the healthier the teeth are and most dentists agree with that statement which would make me want to give my baby the best as long as I could either way.  I do agree with weaning being natural because some babies do it at 7 months, some at a year and some later.  People that BF until their kid is 3, to me, are weird, but they gotta do what suits them.  The lady with the 8 year old that still BF is just......let's not go there k?

  5. dont listen to them... its your body you do what you have too. i did the same thing and some women looked at me like i was stupid.. they also looked down on me because they thought that i was deprivin my son from the nutrition he needed and deserved. thats not for anyone else to decide but you. the truth is if i didnt do it when i did i pretty sure it would had been harder for him to adapt to regular food!

  6. my sons never been breast fed. he is 10mths old and still gags when eating certain solids. some baby's/toddlers take a little longer. everyone i know that is over the age of 10 years old can eat solids unless they have certain handicaps. so there's no worry don't fret over wether or not they take your 2 cents or not the babys will be fine.

  7. It's not a fact.  I've breastfed a 2 1/2 year old and I'm nursing my 22 months old.  Neither of them has ever hurt my nipples, due to having teeth or for any other reason.

A baby/toddler will wean when he or she is ready.  It has nothing to do with teeth or age.

For the record, my first baby got her first tooth when she was 4 months old and chewed on everything.  Being a responsible parent, I didn't give her any FOOD to chew on at that age, but she chewed on herself and anything else she could get in her mouth.  Chewing does NOT mean ready for weaning.

If you don't want four month old babies to nurse, bottle feed YOUR kids and leave the rest of us alone.

  8. I agree, they are wrong, you are right, simple as that...

  9. Not every baby who grows teeth causes pain to the nipples when continuing to breastfeed (I have 3 kids who successfully continued breastfeeding way past the stage of their teeth coming in (fully grown)without causing too much pain to my nipples ever.) The first time they bit (if ever, but not really I just held my fingers between their teeth and my nipples, and they got the idea pretty quickly that they can nurse without biting, and the discomfort of my fingers being between their mouths and my b*****s discouraged them from ever biting me again.

But breastfeeding is very personal, and when to stop is a very personal issue too. "Natural weaning" for some mothers mean stopping when the child decides to initiate the weaning on his/ her own. (But if the child is already 3, then the "natrual weaning " can be helped through bribery (that's what I had to do for my 3 yr. old who was still nusing at that age) of my other 2 kids, one weaned hersel at 2 1/2 yrs, and the other at 16 months.

If stopping when your baby gets teeth is "the right time to wean" for you, then do that, and let others continue if they so desire to do so.

  10. Maybe it's just the few ppl you are dealing with.  Every woman has right to choose when she wants to stop breast feeding.  Although, in my opinion...i think it's quite disturbing to see a child over the age of 2 breast feeding.  So, I agree...a mouth full of teeth...it's time to get off the titty!

  11. hey, im an advocate for weening after the kid turns one.  I do not want to see a three or four year old still suckling at mommy's b***s.  That's just a little too much.  And there is nothing natural about that.  We have to have limits, people

NOTE* That video of the breastfed 8 year old is horrendous and crazy!  That is just darn ridiculous people.  someone help that woman

  12. I agree. I also think that if the child is old enough to unbutton the mother's blouse to breastfeed then it's old enough to drink from a cup!

  13. Because some people are just retarded.

  14. I agree with you. Stop when their teeth come in.

    Look at this. Breastfeeding..at 8!

  15. Because "people" rather women, have the right to decide for themselves and their children how long to breastfeed.  Just because YOUR policy is "old enough to chew old enough to stop breastfeeding" doesn't mean everyone else has that policy...you're not god nor are you the law.

  16. The same way you decided to breast feed and not formula feed people have there personal preference.

  17. People are WAY too sensitive to the subject of breast feeding. I agree with you completely. I never breast fed. It just wasn't right for me or my child and I don't regret it. My daughter is in great health and extremely smart for her age. People are dumb. Bottom line.

  18. You are right, but when they get teeth you should give them a bottle...and introduce them to solids appropriate for their age.

  19. To each their own.

Just because you're opinions differ does not mean that either of you are right or wrong.  Just agree to disagree and do what you feel is right for your children and let them do what they feel is right for their children.

In essence: live and let live.

  20. I AGREE WITH YOU.  I COULDN'T EVEN MAKE IT TO 12 MONTHS.  I STOPPED AT 10 MONTHS WHEN MY SON STARTED WANTING TO SIT/STAND AND PLAY WHILE NURSING! OH NO! THAT WAS UNCOMFORTABLE.
