Question:

How come Adam and Eve didn't die like God said they would if they ate the forbidden fruit?

In Genesis God said Adam and Eve would die if they ate the fruit from the forbidden tree. They ate some and did not die. Why would God tell them this? This was a proved lie, so God can and will lie to us. Why?

  1. God apparently can fib.

  2. The reason they could have lived forever without having eaten from the tree of life is because they were sinless and there was no need for them to die physically or to be alienated from the Lord. They had the nature of God but when they sinned they now had the nature of the devil. Sinning against God is what brought about the spiritual and the physical death. When they disobeyed God by eating from the tree of knowledge that is when their communion and fellowship with God was broken. They became spiritually alienated from Him. The reason God did not want them to eat from the tree of life after they sinned was because they were now sinners with a sinful nature and they would have lived eternally in that condition.

  3. They did die spiritually.  The physical death would come later.

  4. They died spiritually. They were no longer perfect. Besides, they also died physically, do you see them walking around!?!

  5. He didnt mean that they would physically die on the spot although all humans die... He meant that their spiritual relationship would die

  6. 15

The LORD God then took the man and settled him in the garden of Eden, to cultivate and care for it.

    16

The LORD God gave man this order: "You are free to eat from any of the trees of the garden

    17

except the tree of knowledge of good and bad. From that tree you shall not eat; the moment you eat from it you are surely doomed to die."

This is the scripture I believe you are looking for.  It does not say drop dead on the spot, but doomed to die.  There is a big difference.  Also, in disobeying God, their souls died at that point.  Even if their bodies did not.

  7. God didn't lie. They did die, and they are dead. If he lied Adam and Eve would still be walking around today.

  8. God changed his mind.

  9. They did die, just not immediately. It didn't say they would drop dead. Them disobeying caused physical/spiritual death to begin to take place in the human race.

  10. It was not a lie, if they did not eat the fruit they would have had eternal life, but because they ate the fruit, and were chased out of the Garden, they had to live a normal life, and die a natural death.  This shows that God is a loving God, because he didn't kill them on the spot.

  11. They died spiritually immediately upon eating the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.  In addition, physical death was also introduced, which was not instantaneous as the spiritual death was.

They were separated from the Lord by sin, spiritually.

It took the death and resurrection of Jesus to bring them (and all who believe) back.

The truth is that the only way to be saved and to get into heaven and avoid being sent to eternal h**l is by believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died for our sins on the cross and rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe this and you are saved!

Please pray now: "Jesus, please forgive me of my sins. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and You rose from the dead. Thank You for eternal life!" You will be in heaven with Him forever when you die. :)

  12. They did.I do not see them around anymore do you?

  13. Have you read genesis. God never said they would die he just warned them not to do it.

  14. The usual explanations are that it meant they would become mortal or that God referred to spiritual death, but there are a few problems with those explanations.  First, God said "In *the day you eat of it* you shall surely die," not "you shall become mortal and die sometime in the future."  Second, the word translated as "die" in that passage is the same Hebrew word used for the physical death of an individual, so the "explanation" that it meant spiritual death doesn't hold up.

@Lo's mama, I don't think you've read the story yourself.

Gen 2:16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

Gen 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

  15. No, I seen them just the other day. Sarcasm of course.  If they had not eaten that fruit, no one would die.  They did die though, just not in your time.  It never ceases to amaze me how people get on here and run their mouth about how they think the world would be so much better if they were running the show.  Just what have any of you created lately?  I know I left myself wide open there.  Did you make a universe?  Did something living come sliding out of a big pile of goo? (for you evolutionists).  The only moving pile of goo was the one that flew out of your butts when you sat on the pot this morning.  None of you can explain anything about anything.  I have heard some very intelligent answers from both, believers and non-believers.  I always give credit where credit is due and I don't judge anyone.  I pray for everone regardless of who or what they are (even you captain atheist with those pretty pink tights).  You see, I have a sense of humor and I also love to joke around with people, but somethings you just don't joke about.  All of us have morals, not just a "chosen" few.

  16. Wow! If they didn't die could you get their address for me, I'd love to talk to them. When they ate the fruit from the forbidden tree they sinned and became imperfect. They started dying in that moment, since they were still close to perfect they still lived very long lives enabling them to carry out God's purpose for the earth to be populated.

  17. They did.

Their deaths were not immediate, as I believe you are suggesting by your question.

  18. they did

  19. ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE ADAM AND EVE WOULD NOT HAVE KNOWN DEATH HAD THEY NOT EATEN THE APPLE. WHEN THEY ATE THE APPLE DEATH WAS INTRODUCED INTO THE WORLD. GOD DIDN'T SAY WHEN THEY WOULD DIE, JUST THAT THEY WOULD. AGAIN ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE.

  20. actualy, they did die. you dont see them around today, do you? what your probably referring to is the fact that he said in the DAY they ate from it they would die. now, if you look at it the same way we look at days today, it wasnt true. but if you look at 2 Peter 3: 8, it says that a day with God as is a thousand years. and since adam died in his 900s, he did die in the "day" he ate the fruit.(the bible makes no mention of eves death).

  22. God did not add...immediately....

    And they did die...eventually...

The point being made here is that death would only occur...IF they " ate of the tree"...A simple obedience test.

Do we not tell our children...Don't go out on the road...or else you will get run over...?

If they obey, they remain safe.

    Otherwise, they could get killed.

In the case of Adam and Eve, God said they WILL die if they disobeyed...

It raises the question...What would our situation be today IF they had obeyed....no one would be suffering death and everyone who was ever born would still be living...God's original plan. Could the earth support such numbers? Yes...if the whole worlds surface was food productive...And that is what the earth WILL be like, when wickedness is removed...

Psalm 72; 16 There will come to be plenty of grain on the earth; On the top of the mountains there will be an overflow. His fruit will be as in Leb′a·non, And those who are from the city will blossom like the vegetation of the earth.

  23. They did die spiritually, and later on they died a physical death.  God intended to have fellowship always, and our bodies would never die.  He never lied to us.  He also gave us free will to chose.  Plus Satan talked Eve into sinning.  He asked Eve Did God really say.

  24. They did die. Had they not eaten the fruit, they would still be alive today. They ate the fruit and they died when they were old. Just like we do today.
