How come Al Gore hasn't warned us about the dangerous levels of mercury in CFLs?

Are you prepared to pay $2,000 for the cleanup if one of your bulbs accidentally breaks? I thought these new bulbs were supposed to be better for your wallet and the environment.

  1. Great answers.  There probably is money in it for him.

However, lets not start another Chicken Little idea about mercury in light bulbs.  There is little danger unless one starts sucking it out of the bulbs.

You know, it was the anti-pollution effort that created the EPA which now will be charging the huge clean up fee.

It was the same anti-pollution effort that cleared the skies enough to promote the global warming scam.

  2. He didnt warn or did ANYTHING as the vice president  in the 90's against mercury poisoning to young infants what makes you think he would do anything now?

  3. first mercury is very hard to get into the body.

yes there are clean up companies that rip people of for mercury clean up just like there are cleanup companies that rip off people for cleaning up toxic mold that never was there.

i worked at a plant that used mercury in there process.

i worked with over a million times more mercury then is in a CFL lite bulb A DAY.

all i needed for safety equipment was a pair of rubber gloves and that was because of the castic soda that was used to keep the mercury clean.

a collage research study tested all the workers  in the plant that handled mercury.every 3 months

none of us ever were found to have more the normal background levels of mercury in our bodies.

    this is just another scam.

only this one is backfiring on the tree huggers and there global warming people.

who started the mercury is dangerous scam before there was global warming.

there all nuclear power is dangerous scam is backfiring on them too

  4. Now if AlGore could charge 5-10 $ for a toxic mercury 'disposal fee' per bulb - you could bet Al would be screaming at to top of his lungs.

OOPS - I'd better not give anyone ideas. :)

  5. That silly nonsense is an urban legend.

CFLs contain far less mercury than the coal that is burned to keep an incandescent light bulb lit for the life of the CFL.

This has been covered here over and over again.

(Al Gore references are a dead giveaway that someone has nothing substantive to say about global warming.)

  6. i think al gore jumped on the band wagon a little late without much background in the environmental movement. see david suzuki, a scientist that has been working on saving the planet for decades.

  7. He wouldn't, would he, it doesn't fall in line with the BS he is feeding us.

Of course, we are not "talking" a whole lot of mercury here, and too, the clean-up people have to live too.

I work, each, and every day, with these "horribly dangerous" light bulbs, some have/get broken. If proper procedures are taken, there is no cause for alarm, and certainly no reason to call in a clean up crew.

Consider the so-called $2000 bill. Can I *suggest* that $2000 is the minimum charge for a "government certified" cleanup crew to appear on your door step, if only to stand around, while 1 member of that crew cleans the mentioned carpet.

My house is full of CFLs, it saves me approximately 20% on my electricity bill, I am prepared to clean up anything that might happen.

  8. Because Al Gore will not get his sheep to bow to him if he told them the real facts.

  9. I wonder why this came up all of a sudden,  CFLs mercury content has smaller level of mercury than the normal 20 watts and 40 watts regular flourescent light and we have it for a very long time even today, in factories, offices, warehouses and in our homes.  No deaths or illness was ever connected or reported to this type of light since its introduction in the fifties.  The reported danger on the links you provided is a little bit exagerated, maybe by the clean up company, as this is their business, get a lot of business out of your fear.

Please see my sources of informations.

    Alvin
