  1. It has to do with what I call the "Texas effect."  when overseas, and in an environment where people are speaking a language other than english, most Americans believe that they will be understood if they start speaking progressively louder.  This usually starts off at an uncomfortable level and progresses into near-shouting.  Canadians, on the other hand, are more likely to have a phrasebook.

Whenever I'm in Europe, I distance myself from fellow Americans because of this.

  2. Americans are so poorly mistaken in their believes about being the wolds saviours etc.... they p**s everyone off, are arrogant and often poorly educated, also Canada is part of the British Commonwealth of Nations, so more like our (Australian or UK) BROTHERS!

  3. because we're the only country were you can be poorly educated and still make a ridiculous amount of money for foreign travel and these ignorant misanthropes are the ones who make an impression on other people and thus create a bad reputation for the rest of us.  i also understand that it's partly due to drunken canadians telling people that they are americans only when inebriated and obnoxious:) and the politics don't help either.

  4. I hope you will not construe this as an insult to Canadians, but...

I believe you have to stand for something to be hated.

    Criminals hate cops, not bystanders.

Effiete Socialists Snobs hate Capitalists not their fellow Socialists.

The do nothing gang of European liberals hate conservatives, not moderates.

  5. Who told you that lie?

  6. Because some Americans are full of themselves and obnoxious. They go to other countries with 'USA' T-shirts, talking loudly telling people to take pictures of them fat selves, and they expect everyone to speak the english language like it is the only one that exists.

They act like that in my country too, when they go on vacation. They are so bloody loud and ignorant it isn't even funny. Its like that 'special' kid in school when he says some pretty nasty things..you just kind of shake your head and laugh and say 'its not his fault'

  7. Cause the world hates Bush and Americans are associated with him.

    They also envy America's freedom.

  8. I heard that Americans travelling around Europe pretend to be Canadians since Canadians seem to be more welcomed than Americans.Americans are hated overseas owing to the fact that many other countries just don't agree with the policy the US impose.

  9. Canada doesn't invade countries at will and p**s off the rest of the world in the process...

  10. Because a higher percentage of Canadians travel and are multi-lingual. Americans are seen as being elitist and Canadians are not.

  11. American foreign policy and an inability to see their country's faults. eg. calling themselves the 'land of the free' when politicians stay in power by keeping people scared. That's not freedom.

    I guess hypocrisy.

The need to control the world.

Elected world leaders who are not in the slightest bit articulate. How can you have a president who can't think on his feet and articulate his thoughts.

  12. I've been in over 30 counrties (stationed in 3) and have been made feel welcome in each one but TWO: FRANCE and VIET NAM (but the local folks made me feel welcome, it was those 'other guys' taking pot shots that made me not feel like they wanted me there).

I think they feel Canadians are Americans' step children and are nice to them because of that. he he

  13. Because you ask questions like that.
