How come Americans believe that its what you believe that makes you American?

okay so this dude told me that im not american because i dont agree with him on politics or iraq, and also because i dont dedicate my life to knowing every last detail about all that.

how does my differing views make me less american...as i recall i was born in america and have lived here my whole life.

since when did what you believe become the definition for if you're an american?

i am finding that alot more people seem to do this, whats up with that?

If it's because you disagree with him, that goes against the principles of democracy so obviously he's a blowhard.

But you also say "because I don't dedicate my life to knowing every last detail about all that."

If you're willfully ignorant, someone who avoids reading the paper or discussing politics, then some people consider it un-American to not participate in national politics.  Democracy is meaningless if people don't participate.

He's still a blowhard, but that would at least give you an idea for the attitude.

its like the people who are constitution fanatics, they are the same people who know diddly squat about it.

just ignore him...if you are "un" american...that means he must be too...cause there is no definition other than being born in america...cause there are people here who do FAR more worse than "un" american anyways.

The more pressured people feel, the more illogical they become, unless they make it a specific habit to explore themselve.  Americans don't generally do that.  Denial is called the defining characteristic of U.S. citizens, and with good reason.  (We are, by the way only SOME of the Americans.)

If you hold an American passport then you are an American; period! Your beliefs are irrelevant. You might want to begin associating yourself with more intelligent and educated people. They tend to be more open minded and accepting to other peoples opinions than the ones who have never even ventured out of their trailer park.

America runs on propaganda and indoctrination of it's population to keep control.

They keep boasting they are the richest nation on Earth but have massive national debt, sub prime debt, dollar on the floor and the largest number of poor and disadvantaged in the civilized world!!
