  1. They are associated with modernizing the Caucasion world but not necessarily the Arabian world nor the African world and dont even mention the Mongoliod world where time began with one or other Chinease epoc or other.

  2. Caucasian roughly equals Europe which roughly equals Western. First there was Greece - and they fought wars with the Persians from the East, aka Asia. The concept of concausian is somewhat different than reality.

Rome established eventually an Eastern Empire centered on Contantinople and the west, nominally on Rome.

It's not a question of good or bad as it relates to people. But the Romans were great spreaders of their civilization and some of those who were forced to joined didn't aspire to what we consider civilized. The Romans could be and frquently were brutal and murderous. It was a different time.

But they also invented modern civil law as we know it, which is a major reason there is so much Latin usage. Roman law sysems spread into and influenced canon law, i.e. church law.

Between the Roman times and more recent periods, something called Western Civilization developed. A whole range of intellectuals and philosophers developed the concept of the rule of law.

The fullest realization of Modernizing being the same as Westernizing came about with what were and still are called "the great Western liberal democracies."

We have had some people rewriting our language, turning liberal into leftist instead of free, i.e. Liberal origin is "of a free man"

So Liberal democracies were Liberal or free. They were not  Conservative because conservatives support rule of monarchy or of the few - and in "coservative" countries, the intest of those at the top always comes before that of the people as a whole. So when democracies began replacing monarchies and the like, those countries became free.

How to insure it. The essential element is Democracy with a written constitution to which all must adhere. No man is above the constitution and no man is above the law.

When you this further, it involves civil rights, i.e. the right the vote, to be equal before the law. Then at some point, women were liberated. We talk about liberalizing economies, i.e. making them free and we talk about liberal economics as in free markets.(liberal economics is the corrrect term although classic also fits.

Modernizing sometimes just meant imposing western systems, but in its fuller meaning, it means spreading the concept of the rule of law -- checks and balances.

Modernizing did not just apply to those who were westernized. Westerners also sought and largely found a way to solve the most crucial problem, succession. Monarchies and otther types of government going to war for decades over succession. The English wars in France in the middle ages were not necessarily about  one country against another, but about which king was sovereign where.

So we developed constitutional monarchies, the monarch fitting tradition and parliaments producing prime miners. Thekind was the formal head of state, the PM was thehead of government.

We developed and semed to have recently thrown away a system with a strong constitution and strong checks and balances.. There is some question about whether the United States is  currently a western liberal monarchy or a country with a despot temporarily in control, annointing judgs and others to insure that his party can avoid real challenge on succession. So the great divide.

At the ideal level, no westen liberal democracy would consider imposting its system on another country except under extraordinary circumstances. The governments in both Japan and Germany had to be replaced  because they had launched aggressive war on false pretenses.

One thing we canbe sure of is that we are not "liberalizing" Iraq or modernizing it. Saddam Hussein won't be missed by many, but surveys show that some believe they were better off despite a tyranny whcih actually touched them.

It is not modernizing anyone to first demolish an inconsequential army and then occupy their country. But It certainly wasn't modernizing or liberalizing anything to install an idiot as a self-styled viceroy at the head of a large cast of young Republicans to mold it in their image. It may not be obvious, but they did to Iraq what they want to do to us..

in some countries, westernizing/modernizing means adopting liberal democracy (or in some cases something les desireable. They might also adopt Western style clothing or some fusion.

But the  secondary part of western/modern is trade and some of these changes occur because it i part of the trade process.

  3. indus valley in india was a black civilization and it was the most advanced civilization of it's time.

  4. I would say that most people don't describe westernization as having taken place at the hands of Caucasians. They usually just specify that it grew out of Europe, which happened to be populated predominantly by white people. It just so happens that most of the technologies and political innovations that we use today, came as a result of various developments within Europe, which Europeans then exported to the rest of the world, particularly to their various colonies.
