Olympic. Everyone just know Michael Phelps is this and that but never knew who is Guo Jingjing who became the first female to win 4 Olympic golds at the 3m diving board and other such as Liu Xiang. Please dont give me answers such as cheating or commies because that is not true.

  1. It's typical Western Media. They only concentrate on American athletes. But I did see a lot of matches with Chinese in them.

  2. the true reason is :it's west media not chinese media.chinese media do the same as west do.in china,on the chinese website and newspaper and any other medias, chinese people also can see a huge heaps of information about chinese athletes covering the medias, and mere a little information about other nations' athletes, every country is the same, news about their own athletes is more informative and attractive for their own citizens.

  3. Don't take it too personally. Do you know why there is such a thing as a media or news?? It is because of the rating! Do you really think the rating would go up when they air some chinese diver who won so many gold?? All about money baby!

  4. We also have had at least 80% of the news coverage how great were Chinese athletes in Hong Kong newspapers / TV news.  Olympics is an event for linking nations up and we should try to show more understanding to the others.

We love our country and so do they!

Besides, there are lot of people in western world know who is Liu Xiang!

Well, you think people do not know who is Guo Jingjing is unfair to this first female to win 4 Olympic gold at the 3 m diving board?  Then do you know who is Anky van Grunsven (a Dutch athlete)???

Isn't it unfair to those who won the equestrian events? Anky van Grunven won Dressage 3 golds in (individual) 2000, 2004, 2008 & 5 silvers in 1992 (team), 1996 (team & individual), 2000 (team), 2008 (team).

I admire Michael Phelps and Dara Torres but that doesn't mean I do not appreciate the other athletes from different countries.

  5. I'm a Chinese-American, so don't assume that I hate China, etc. etc. etc. because I was BORN there.  I'm now a naturalized American, though.

Anyway, it all depends on what you're watching.  I noticed that NBC is a lot fairer to the Chinese athletes and China in general, probably because they paid $900 MILLION to get broadcasting rights.

Anyway, I think it's because China isn't really the underdog anymore, and people like underdog stories.  There's that sports blog on yahoo with a guy named Chris Chase who almost always has an undertone deriding the Chinese in his blogs.

In the back of my head, I also think, and I could be wrong--that people still look down a little bit on China.  They condescend.  You get what I mean?  They might not always show it, but your gut feeling's there for a reason.

Then again, I didn't know most of the names of the Chinese athletes except for the famous ones like Liu Xiang, Guo Jingjing, Yao, Li Ning, etc.

The main reason is probably the most obvious one: the Americans grew up with Michael Phelps and these other athletes.  They see them more!  So don't feel bad.  I grew watching these American athletes and I was rooting for them.  I also was rooting for China, so my two favorite countries won.

  6. Most of the media always yells what ever the public want to listen. It's true every where. The same is true with Chinese media.

You should be looking at some media which is not biased.

I am an Indian and we don't make news at the Olympics. The Indian media (which is one of the largest in the world) have praised the Chinese team many times.

  7. Don't feel bad. It's just the media deciding what they want us to see. Of course we know there are many great athletes not of America. It's up to the media to decide who should be given more coverage. For me, I think the greatest atheletes are those that don't get a medal but compete with great sportsmanship and have a wonderful story to tell of where they came from to get to where they are. So, it's not the quantity of medals but the quality that counts.

  8. Its the same all over the world, medias are going to praise there greatest greatest athletes. And I hate to say it woman stars are going to be over looked in favourite of male stars.....

  9. The same. Everything that a Western country does, even if it's so obviously wrong, will always be right. Everything that an Asian country does, even though it's so obviously right, will always be wrong. Since when have the Asians, not only Chinese been treated on equal terms. They make up stories about China cheating or whatnot because they're just jealous. They know that they can never have the same kind of endurance to train unlike the Chinese, who puts in a lot of effort and hard work. After this Olypmics, China has proven everybody wrong. See, now people have already shut up, because they know that whatever they say will not suffice anymore.

  10. because they think the Chinese athletes represent the Chinese government, not China the country, certainly not the Chinese people. When they win, they're "underage" & get help from judges, that's all you gonna hear, but they are not gonna say anything about the underwater video tape which they are not going to show.

why do you think the US did so bad in track & field, because they can't use drugs now, not after so many American athletes got busted.

I was watching France24, they were showing an interview of a Tibetan Chinese(with face blocked) saying that there isn't any Tibetan on the team, WTF, do we have to have all 56 groups on the team? I can't believe they're starting this S**t again. I'm fed up with the french, and no longer I have respect for them.

  11. Sorry I'm from the US and we heard a lot about the Chinese

we heard about Liu Xiang and Guo Jingjing also:

Zou Shiming winning boxing flyweight historic since boxing was banned before by Mao Tse dong

China won 8 out of 12 possible medals in table tennis

7 of 8 possible golds in diving.

    He Kexin Uneven bars

And many medals in weightlifting and shooting

We also heard about a Jamaican

    Usain Bolt

China got 1 medal for every 25 million citizens. Jamaica got one medal for every 425,000 citizens.  US one medal per 2,750,000.

We love our country like you love yours and prefer to see the Olympic wins of our own country,  that doesn't mean we don't see what happens in other countries. Why do you need our approval?  Be happy, China is a fortunate country with a large population who will continue to be an Olympic powerhouse.  Why not give Tibet back and show the world your strength?
