Question:

How come Comcast, DirecTV and Dish Network ALL say they have the best HD? They cant all be the best?

I have comcast and get like 10 HD channels, but yet I am overloaded by Comcast commercials bragging about how they have twice as much HD than DirecTV.

I check DirecTV and they offer like 70 HD channels. They also have MLB extra innings in HD and NFL Sunday ticket in HD. I'm not understanding how Comcast can say they have twice as much HD than direcTV?

Then I go to Dish Network and they say they have the most sports and movies in HD? I check their channel lineup and I don't see how? They don't have MLB Extra Innings or Sunday Ticket?

What the heck is going on? How can everyone lie? Who actually has the most HD?

  1. Dude Comcast and Dish Network are liars. I've had all three and I would say that DirecTv is the best out there belive me,because I still have DirecTv.

  2. they're all using different metrics to say the're the "best".

DirecTV is saying they're the best because they can deliver each individual customer more BIG NAME HD channels. They do compress the signal down further, that's true, but it's not noticeable at all because of the technology they use. They also have less HD content overall compared to Comcast (who has the On-Demand and locals in HD)

Comcast says they're the best because they deliver more HD content overall. That includes their local channels in HD (they offer in 100% of markets compared to DirecTV, who's still adding SD locals in 4%, let alone some of the existing markets don't have HD yet), On-Demand HD content, etc. They don't, however, figure in how much HD content the AVERAGE SUBSCRIBER can get (which is below DirecTV).

Dish, usually, likes to make outrageous claims to run with the big dogs. They may be offering a lot of HD, but usually with their content it's a lot of less-watched, or obscure channels. When they say they've got the most of something, they probably pick a lower competitor and forget to say that in their advertisements.

  3. The satellite networks use a compressed signal. Lower quality, but its digital and most people dont notice and if they could wouldnt care.

Comcast has tons of channels, if you want to pay for them.

Your comparing these companies on one aspect of their service. MLB being a major part of it. But the other guys have other things you arent interested in. In the end, take the package that has the most to offer to YOU. You dont care if the others have more HD channels if those HD channels are all golf or knitting or other c**p you dont care about.

They may also say HD when they really should say Digital TV. Theres a difference.
