Question:

How come Final Fantasy 13 is on Xbox 360?

I realise now that Final Fantasy 13 is no longer exclusive to the PS3, but I was wondering why that is and how it happened.

Also, does this mean ALL FFXIII games are on Xbox too, or is Final Fantasy Versus XIII still exclusive?

  1. FF Versus is still exclusive to the PS3 for now. Microsoft spoke with SquareEnix and convinvce them to bring the FF XIII game to the Xbox 360. No one knows if any money was involved. All we know is that the US and European version of FF XIII will be released simultaneously on the PS3 and XBox 360 sometime next year hopefully.Whether future FF games will be on the 360 is up in the air. Anything is possible though.

FFXIII is NOT exclusive to the XBox 360, like the guy above said. It'll be on the 360 and PS3.

  2. SquareEnix decided they could benefit from releasing the game on multiple systems, and Sony couldn't secure a contract that would make it an exclusive title.  Final Fantasy Versus XIII is still listed as a PS3 exclusive.

  3. Have you noticed that there is a lack of decent games for the ps3 (in comparison to when the other ps consoles were released there are far fewer games available this far after its release). Well this reason is because Sony has made it so difficult and expensive for outside game companies to create games for them, that when the Final Fantacy contract was up with Sony, the game company decided to pull the title and release it on a more game creater friendly console. The ps3 is just an over priced blu-ray player (I own one... and am terribly disapointed in it).

  4. Square had two games coming out for 360 and at E3 it was announced that FFXIII was coming to 360 also, a shotgun to the face for Sony. It was mostly because Square knew they'd get tons more cash if they released it for the 360. I laughed and I yayed.

  5. Because there aren't enough PS3s out there for SquareEnix to possibly turn a profit on FF13 if they only release it on PS3.

No, FF Versus 13 is still PS3 exclusive (at least for now). As is FF 13 itself in Japan.

  6. The FF franchise wasn't always a Playstation exclusive.

I know that we are just playing to have fun, but the industry is about selling software, hardware and services.

Square can make money from exclusive rights, paid by the console manufacturers and the number of titles sold.

Sony would have to cough up a lot of money to Square to cover the potential sales from Xbox 360 owners who far outnumber PS3 owners. If not, Square would still make money on the 360 hardware.

But Sony would also benefit by having highly sought after titles available exclusively on their hardware.  Haven't you wanted a game so badly that you bought the hardware you needed to play it?

I'm guessing that Sony had to weigh  the cost of the exclusivity contract against the amount of sales potential for their hardware, and came up short of the price Square Enix wanted.

Being an Xbox 360 owner who didn't want to buy the PS3, I'm a happy camper.

  7. During E3, it was announced that FF13 will be exclusive to the 360, says G4.

  8. The fact is that it's expensive to make the game, and if SE wants to make money, it's going to have to release the game for the 360.  Even though the PS3 has outsold the 360 in the same time frame (2 years after release), there are still more 360 out there than PS3 simply because 360 has been out longer.  Anyway, by making the game available to both platforms, SE can make a lot more money than just making it for the PS3.  SE probably try to extort money from Sony by offering to make it a PS3 exclusive in return for a huge sum of cash, but Sony probably turned it down, like it did for Assassin's Creed.

FF vs. XIII is still a PS3 exclusive.
