How come I can't open the installer for AIM on my MacBook?

My laptop's a version 10.5. I've been trying to download the installer for the AIM version for Macintosh. It downloads, but then I try to open it and it says that the operation is not supported. Why does it say this and is there any way I can install AIM on my laptop?

AOL stopped making it a while ago so your installer is probably incompatible. Use iChat. It blows the old AIM out of the water and it's already in your Apps folder.

I don't know why it won't install but just if you didn't know, iChat can work just like AIM, just enter your AIM user name and password in iChat and you will be logged in, I personally think it's better anyway.

I suggest Adium for the Mac. Open-source IM clients are better, run faster, and less likely to crash. And it actually gets updates.
