How come I cant rip my dvd?

Question

when I put the dvd in the drive it only says open folder or take no action. But when I put in an audio cd it says I can rip it. I've download'd dvd ripping software and still nothing can someone please help me

DVDs are encoded so that you are not able to legally rip them to your computer. There are methods of doing so but as i said they are not entirely legal.
